Sony Unveils New Headset

Sony announces new HMZ headset to jump into the VR race.

VR Gaming looks to become the new niche for the next generation in gaming. With the Oculus Rift still impressing gamers around the world, it looks like Sony may want a piece of that pie. Eurogamer had a chance to report on these new headsets this past week.

Sony’s HMZ T2 is essentially a remodel of last years model of the original HMZ. The HMZ still is a 3D headset that when on, it will give the illusion of having a movie theater in front of your face. This new model definitely looks a lot sleeker than the Oculus Rift, but that comes at a steep price. It will retail for over $1500 in the us and £1000 in Europe.

Personally I still prefer the Oculus Rift over Sony’s HMZ series due to the fact that the Oculus Rift still has the best head tracking movements. When wearing a headset like these to play a game, I’ll want to become fully immersed in the game. So having full head tracking is a must for me. If Oculus releases closer to the $300-$500 range like they want to, Sony will have to lower the price of the HMZ series to compete.

It’s great to see that bigger companies are taking notice with VR gaming. I feel between the big 3 (Microsoft, Nintendo , and Sony), who ever adds support for VR gaming to their home console will definitely have a head start in the next gen race.
